Comment on Six narratives about Trump’s election by Judith Snellgrove/2024/11/11/six-narratives-about-trumps-election-harris/#comment-61337Sun, 02 Feb 2025 23:07:33 +0000/?p=10491#comment-61337No doubt there are numerous explanations for Mr Trump’s win but in the end this was a fight between only two contestants. I imagine that you regard Mr Trump as a highly undesirable character and there is a ton of evidence to support that view. But the voters thought Mrs Harris and the Democrat Party were worse. Opinion polls regularly showed that US voters regarded the Democrats as more extreme than the Republicans. That is what Democrats and the left need to reflect on – however bad Trump was/is they are considered worse.

Mr Trump has now won two elections and did not do badly in 2000. He should not have got close to winning in any of the three but did so because his opponents are on a par with him in terms of quality and honesty and their views are anathema to many people. Trump should no longer be seen as a chancer who got lucky once but rather as an indictment of the Democrat Party and most of what it currently stands for.
